Press Release
/On February 27, 2009, the Berlin gallery Gilla Lörcher will open its premises with the solo exhibition “Diorama” by the artist Jürgen Eisenacher. Large-format drawings are exhibited, which are characterized by lively ornamental structures.
The fact that the artist Jürgen Eisenacher thematizes the connections between colonialism and current migration from Africa to Europe in his exhibition “Diorama” becomes apparent only at second glance. The motifs of the drawings are partly based on old lithographs and screen prints from the early 18th century.
Eisenacher contrasts colonialist motifs with - to name just one example - images of boat refugees who want to get from Africa to Europe. The artist utilizes and alienates well-known motifs and stereotypes conveyed through the media and combines them with ornamental structures.
