Press Release

/
Galerie Gilla Loercher is very pleased to present the first solo exhibition by Austrian artist Barbara Sturm at the gallery.

For the exhibition at Galerie Gilla Lörcher, Barbara Sturm selected and designed the media installations “Projected moth” and “Hot is the projector and not the atmosphere”, the installation with bred flies “Spatial Concentration in the Afternoon” and a series of drawings.
It is characteristic of Barbara Sturm's media installations that they defy any classification. In addition to the use of various media and techniques, the room-specific construction of the installation is always in the foreground. With their extremely minimalistic appearance, these media technology structures turn into independent sculptures. The artist works with subtle overlays in her installations. They irritate the viewer, who does not initially determine which medium he is confronted with.

In her series of drawings “Before and after nothing” and “Corrections”, the artist deals with found interiors of living spaces and utility rooms. In order to expressively condense the expressiveness of the designed rooms, the artist uses various manipulative image processing methods. The photographic templates and the drawings based on these templates are digitally distorted and rectified.
