Press Release
/Galerie Gilla Loercher is excited to announce the second solo exhibition of French artist Quentin Lefranc.
The opening reception is on 15 August 19:00. You and your friends are warmly invited.
(From 24 September - 11 October 2025 the gallery will be closed for vacation.)
Designed as a “place of study,” the architecture serves as a framework, territory, and playground for the works of Quentin Lefranc. He always creates a dialogue between the place and what he shows there. His works, which are located at the intersection of various practices, function like open brackets in space. By bringing them together or juxtaposing them, he questions what this space consists of. He experiments with its permeability, hierarchies, and history. Even though a sculptural dimension dominates, his proposals favor a field of action rather than a practice, inviting us to reflect on our existence and the act of creating a place.
In his current exhibition, the artist explores the motif of the plinth and highlights its frequent use as a stylistic device in the grammar of exhibitions, its history, and its meanings. From an art historical perspective, the plinth is much more than just a platform for sculptures and objects. Its significance has changed over the centuries and is constantly being reinterpreted and questioned by artists. The plinth motif is multi-layered and encompasses functional, aesthetic, and conceptual aspects. The plinth can significantly influence the presentation and perception of a work of art and even become part of the artistic statement itself.
Quentin Lefranc (born in 1987) lives and works in Paris (France). He graduated from the Art School in Rueil-Malmaison (2011) and the School of Arts Décoratifs in Paris (2013). His works have been exhibited in numerous art institutions and galleries: Palais de Tokyo, Paris (F); Centre d'Art Contemporain, Nîmes (F), Centre d'Art Chateauvert (F); Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts, Brussels (B), Château de la Reuil-Malmaison, Reuil-Malmaison (F); CNAP Centre National des Arts Plastiques, Paris (F); Collection Lambert, Avignon (F); Librairie Yvon Lambert, Paris (F); Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Pantin (F); Galerie Jérôme Pauchant, Paris (F); Galerie Joy de Rouvre, Geneva (CH), Rabouan Moussion Galerie, Paris (F), QG Gallery, Knokke (B), Galerie Gilla Loercher, Berlin (D) a.o.
