Press Release
/Galerie Gilla Loercher | Contemporary Art is excited to present the second solo show of artist Yoana Tuzharova.
The opening of P R E S E N T is on 1 May 2026 from 18:00-21:00. The exhibition can be viewed as of 12:00 that day.
You and your friends are very welcome.
The artist talk with Yoana Tuzharova and Wilko Austermann (director Museum gegenstandsfreier Kunst) takes place on 2 May 18:00.
During the Gallery Weekend Berlin 1-3 May 2026 we have special opening hours: Fri 12:00-21:00, Sat 12:00-19:30, Sun 12:00-18:00. We look forward to your visit!
In the exhibition P R E S E N T, Yoana Tuzharova confronts us with the traces we leave behind every day between the digital and analog worlds: grease smudges and swipe marks that appear on smartphone screens while chatting, emailing, scrolling, shopping, and liking. The artist works with various media here: photography, print, installation, and light works.
“These painterly yet automated gestures are traces of our everyday lives, or rather: traces of the interface between the digital and physical worlds. At the same time, they are the origin of digitality, where decisions are made in fractions of a second with just a tap of the thumb,” writes Nantje Wilke.
“The display of our smartphone is also the arena of a battle”, writes Jens Bülkemper in his catalog text on Yoana Tuzharova. „Business emails go out while we brush our teeth; the pressure of a world in ‘always-on’ mode is enormous. Meanwhile, BuzzFeed feeds attention-economy fast food to so-called users to win the war for eyeballs. (…) ‘Swiping’—that is, swiping and tapping on the smartphone’s user interface—has become an integral part of our unconscious, habitual spectrum. Our decisions on PayPal and Amazon, Instagram and Tinder leave a trail that Yoana Tuzharova (…) reflects upon in terms of its expressive power regarding the human condition in times of digital transformation.”
Please note that the gallery will be closed for summer vacation from 15 June to 5 July 2026.
